I recently spoke with Express News about the remarkable rise of our freelancing ecosystem and the incredible contribution of 2.37 million Pakistani freelancers who are taking Pakistan’s talent to the world. In just the first nine months of the 2025-26 fiscal year, freelancers contributed 856 million dollars to Pakistan’s economy. This is not a side industry anymore. It is a national economic engine.

From cybersecurity and software development to AI-powered graphic design and digital services, Pakistani freelancers are competing globally on platforms like Upwork and Fiverr. Yet despite this success, major challenges still exist.

Many freelancers continue to face the following:
1. High transaction costs
2. Delayed international payments
3. Unfair pricing compared to global talent
4. Limited access to modern financial infrastructure

In some cases, freelancers lose 25 to 30 dollars on just a 200 dollar payment because of inefficient payment channels.

This must change:
At Pakistan Freelancers Association (PAFLA), we are actively advocating for direct switch-to-switch connectivity between Pakistani and international financial systems to reduce payment friction and ensure freelancers receive the full value of their hard work.
