What do you think... should Kiwisaver be compulsory? And should contribution be higher?

I heard Mike Hosking say this morning that in NZ you need 20% deposit for your first home. Fortunately for first home buyers, this is not true. There are a few ways to get in with lower deposit. Primarily there is the Kaianga Ora First Home Loan which we use a lot. This gets you in for minimum 5% deposit. Sometimes though, people I see don't qualify for this one, but banks sometimes have capacity in the low-deposit space and on at least 2 occasions in the last few months, I've gotten people into their first home with minimum 10% deposit. Moral of the story... don't believe all the hear, and talk to an expert first. I'm here to chat... you might be closer to your first home dream than you think!

February 2026 marks 14 years I've been with NZHL! I think back to all the things that have changed in that time... premises, staff and management, systems (luckily not so many paper-based applications any more!), but one thing has never changed - NZHL's unwavering commitment to helping NZ families achieve financial freedom faster. I've seen a great deal of successes in that 14 years... maybe your success with NZHL is in the near future! Here's to 14 more ♥️
