Nova vrijedna akvizicija u Muzeju grada Splita!

Muzej grada Splita od danas je bogatiji za još jednu vrijednu sliku. Ovoga ljeta je, naime, na dražbi aukcijske kuće Rasmunssen u Danskoj, Muzej uspio kupiti sliku slikara Johana Petera Kornbecka s prikazom katedrale sv. Dujma, peristilskih lukova i palače Skočibučić, naslikane 1873. godine.

Kornbeck (1837-1894) je bio danski slikar poznat po motivima arhitektonskih eksterijera. Bio je po obrazovanju slikar i arhitekt. Putovao je često u Italiju i Španjolsku, prema običajima vremena, ali i u Dalmaciju i dunavske zemlje. Dio slika, pa tako i ova novokupljena, koje se relativno često nađu na aukcijama, dolazi s njegove prodajne izložbe u Kopenhagenu 1887., kada je Kornbeck skupljao novac za svoje dugo pripremano putovanje u Egipat.
Pored nedvojbene umjetničke, ova slika ima i svoju dokumentarnu vrijednost, jer u prednjem planu prikazuje i ranosrednjovjekovnu crkvicu Svetog Mateja, koja se do 1881. nalazila nasuprot južnom ulazu u splitsku katedralu, umetnuta između periptera i temenosa Dioklecijanova mauzoleja. Muzej na proljeće slijedeće godine kani organizirati studijsku izložbu na kojoj će se osim ovog lijepog ulja, naći i reprodukcije još barem sedam drugih splitskih motiva koje je Kornbeck naslikao tijekom svog boravka u ovom gradu.
