Huge thank you to for my parcel today. It’s a bit battered after its journey across Manchester, but that didn’t stop it being a treat to open!
Thank you for thinking of me, and for your lovely note x

Today I booked my ticket for Engager LABS 25, and I'm not even sure what it is. 😁
I know that it's organised by Johann Goree and his team at hashtag , and it's a day dedicated to accounting, which is my 4th favourite kind of day.

For full disclosure, here are they are in order:

1. Day dashing around the place on motorbikes
2. Day chasing steam engines
3. Day getting muddy doing something suitable outside
4. Day dedicated to honing my craft (I'm kidding, I just want to poke new software with my nerdy mates and carry on the search for the perfect snack)

Now, do I drive, or get the train?

The train takes longer, but it does mean that I can practise my people skills by not shouting abuse at those who talk too loudly or have their 'music' on a tinny speaker.

To be confirmed. 😁

I was invited to go on the Accountants Success Secrets podcast yesterday, and I thought it went rather well. Huge thanks to PhillipaHaynes and Mark Lee for the opportunity. And if you’re remotely interested, the link is in the captions below

Three things I'm loving this week:

1. I've finally given in to the relentless emails (probably 3 actually) and booked Accountex North. I'll be operating under the usual method, which is namely to make a careful list of the people that I want to watch, get caught in conversation with somebody I haven't seen in ages and totally miss a key speaker, slope off around 2pm grumbling that I didn't get a free cookie, and wishing I'd brought the car instead of getting the bus.

2. I've signed up for Otto, the latest shiny new software that will help streamline bookkeeping services.

3. I've booked one of those branding photoshoot whatsits, and I'm already terrified. Athough I've got used to it over the years, I really don't like having my photograph taken, but I can't keep on using the only shot of me that I actually like, in which I appear to have been dragged through a hedge backwards, so watch out for some self-conscious shots making their way over to you soon. 😁

How's your week panned out?

Quickbooks.
One of the many softwares on the market aimed at small businesses.

It offers all the usual shenanigans, receipt capture, bank feeds, reconciliations, VAT returns, payroll function.

The support is super helpful too!

Last week I had the pleasure of visiting , the new kid on the block for us accountancy professionals.
Held at the NEC in Birmingham, it was the perfect opportunity first a quick train journey to see what it was all about.
And it didn’t disappoint.

From sparkling new software to enhance our offering to top tips from our fellow accountancy professionals, there was something for everybody.

Would I go again?
Sure thing!

Saving.
Do you save for your tax bill?
Your VAT liability?

If not, why not?
Saving is always a good habit to get into .

Think about it.
If you set up a regular saving amount on a monthly, or even weekly basis, you'll have one of 3 outcomes.

1. You'll have your tax or vat payment covered, no sweat.
2. If it's not covered, it'll be well on the way.
3. You'll have some left over to invest back into your business, or even take for personal use.

The amount to save does depend upon the structure of your business and the industry that you work in, so do consult your accountant for further advice.

We've all received them.
The text telling us that we're in deep, deep trouble with HMRC, and if we'd only reply the message IMMEDIATELY, they'll sort out this silly misunderstanding and get you back to being all nice and compliant.
Read the blog for some handy tips.

Receipts. Do you keep them?
With all the help out there available to you, there should be no reason to lose any.
With the requirement by HMRC to keep all receipts, either paper or electronically, for 6 years, it's a good habit to get into.
