Are you a sole trader?
Making Tax Digital (MTD) for Income Tax is here and it’s changing the way you report your earnings.
From April 2026, if you earn over £50,000, you’ll need to use MTD-compatible software instead of the traditional Self Assessment process.
What does that mean in practice?
You’ll keep your income and expenses as digital records
You’ll send quarterly updates to HM Revenue & Customs
You’ll still submit your final end-of-year return, just in a more streamlined way
The shift is already happening. The key now is making sure you’re set up properly so you stay compliant and in control.
If you get this right early, it’s not just about ticking a box, it’s about gaining clearer visibility over your numbers and making better decisions in your business.

Overpaid tax?
If you’ve paid more tax than you should have, you’re not alone and it doesn’t have to stay that way. Overpayment Relief gives you a second chance to reclaim what’s rightfully yours, even if your original return can’t be amended.
At A&C Chartered Accountants, we go beyond the numbers, reviewing past returns to uncover missed opportunities and put money back where it belongs - in your business.

Thank you to everyone who supported and donated to such an important cause, and to our clients who also took part - we’ve loved hearing your stories from the run too!

The 2026/27 tax year brings a number of targeted changes that will directly impact business owners, particularly those operating through limited companies.
While many thresholds remain the same, increases to dividend tax, higher charges on director loans, stricter penalties for late filing, and rising Capital Gains Tax mean it’s more important than ever to plan ahead.
The key isn’t reacting at the last minute - it’s understanding what’s changing now and making informed decisions early.

HMRC is tightening its grip on dividends and director transactions - and this is one business owners can’t afford to ignore.
New proposals could mean close companies have to report far more detail on payments to shareholders, from dividends to loans and even asset transfers. On top of that, from 2025/26, directors will need to disclose more information in their self-assessment returns - including shareholdings and dividend income.
The direction is clear: more transparency, more data, and more scrutiny.
If you’re taking dividends from your company, it’s now more important than ever to make sure everything is properly documented and compliant.
