1. Build a "peace of mind fund" (not the same as your emergency fund) - equivalent to living expenses for 30 days;
2. Pay off high interest rate debt such as credit cards - make minimum payments, if interest is above 8%, pay off monthly;
3. Build an Emergency Buffer - if single: peace of mind fund x 3, or if if head of household: peace of mind fund x 6;
4. Start Investing - sooner than later; and

and tie the above to:

65% - for essential spending (everyday basic needs and living expenses)
20% - for lifestyle spending (discretionary spending on leisure, hobbies, etc.)
15% - for savings & Investm
ents (includes building your peace of mind and emergency funds)

The Belize Tax Service recently issued a public notice advising all tax payers registered for business tax of requirement to submit an annual financial statement Return.

The return form is now available to be completed and submitted in IRIS.

Please note that this is not a new requirement or amendment to the income and business tax. This requirement has always been there but wasn't being enforced by the department until now.

Following is the section of the Income and Business Tax Act (chapter 55, Laws of Belize) that makes such requirement mandatory.

31.–(1) Every person who is chargeable to tax shall, without
notice or demand, file with the Commissioner on or before the
last day of the third month following the end of the basis year a
return of income for that year in the form prescribed and
containing the information prescribed.
